We asked Kelly Broker-Campbell to come on to talk about a planned public Makerspace in Springfield at River Valley Tech. Makerspace? Basically, a community center with tools where you can learn to design, prototype, and make stuff that you wouldn’t normally be able to because you don’t have the right equipment or knowledge. “Makerspaces represent the democratization of design, engineering, fabrication, and education.” (I totally stole that line.) But there’s more. Having done our usual creepy internet background investigation, it turns out that she’s a passionate educator with a strong interest in nature. Bet she has lots of interesting territory that we can get into, and I hope we do.
Also, in the second hour, I’ll be giving away a copy of Sierra Hull’s new CD, Weighted Mind, to a lucky caller. And it’s a signed copy, mind you, her pen to your sleeve. You know Sierra Hull: she’s that mandolin prodigy, had a band called Highway 111, played down in Putney a couple times. This her all grown up in a solo outing produced by Béla Fleck, with guest appearances from Alison Krauss, Abigail Washburn, and Rhiannon Giddens. The only catch is that the winner will need to come pick up the CD at our studio sometime. Be ready shortly after 8:00 on Wednesday night, I’ll let you know when to call 802-460-9665 extension 100.
