Wednesday is World Book Night! We’ve got 20 copies of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children to give away — just show up at the station between 7-9 PM and claim one. bookgiver2014 Ideally these are for people who don’t read all that much, but let’s be honest — we ain’t gonna turn anyone away. Read it, and then give it to a friend who doesn’t read as much as you do; that’ll work just fine.

About this book:

“‘Peculiar’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. Riggs’ chilling, wondrous novel is already headed to the movies.”

“With its X-Men: First Class-meets-time-travel story line, David Lynchian imagery, and rich, eerie detail, it’s no wonder Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children has been snapped up by Twentieth Century Fox.”

“[A] thrilling, Tim Burton-esque tale with haunting photographs.”

“A tense, moving, and wondrously strange first novel. The photographs and text work together brilliantly to create an unforgettable story.”

“An original work that defies categorization.”

“Brace yourself for the last 70 pages of relentless, squirm-in-your-chair action. I loved every minute of it.”

Stop by the library earlier in the afternoon, they’ll have other titles they’ll be giving out! And then head downtown and look around, folks from Village Square books will be down there somewhere participating in this delightful thing.

Book Night update: Now with more titles! WOOL was contacted a couple weeks ago by a PR firm working on behalf of the World Book Night organizers to involve media outlets. WOOL said OK! But the details were left kinda sketchy. Well, a box of assorted books arrived. First come, first served! I’m going to be at the station by 6PM Wednesday, maybe earlier. Come by and get a book! Infrequent readers are especially encouraged – this is all about you.

In addition to 20 copies of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, we’ve got at least one copy each of:
Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
Twelve Years A Slave by Solomon Northup
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
100 Best Loved Poems anthology
The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman
The Hotel At The Corner Of Bitter And Sweet by Jamie Ford
Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers
After The Funeral by Agatha Christie
Wild by Cheryl Strayed

M&H 030: The Dish and Drew

[powerpress]

It’s coming. Not sure what it is yet, but gird your loins.

UPDATE: Mark is out sick (for the first time ever), but you fans of The Dish are gonna be stoked to know that you’re getting a double-shot this week! She’ll be sitting in with Drew starting at 7PM.

Also, Amie Walter will make a return appearance at the top of the show with more of that great Amie stuff — including Honor the Elephants.

Don’t mish The Dish, and don’t… what rhymes with Hamsters?
